Port Eco Workshop

The Port of Brisbane is located at the mouth of the Brisbane River and is adjacent to the Moreton Bay Marine Park, an area of high ecological and conservational value.  The Marine Park has a variety of habitats, including mangrove and seagrass vegetation, which provide important nursery and breeding habitats for fish and crustaceans.  At the Port of Brisbane Corporation we undertake a wide range of monitoring to measure our environmental performance and to minimise potential environmental impacts from the port's operations.


PortEco Workshop for Secondary Students can consist of all, or some, of the following in varying depths:

  • Stormwater Management – including water quality testing
  • An investigative journey through a range of habitats including the bird roost site, intertidal zones and the lake at the Visitors Centre.

PortEco Workshop for Primary Students involves habitat studies with a focus on: 

  • Flora and fauna identification
  • Habitats and food chains
  • How to protect the environment 


 

Suitability: 
Suitable for grades 3-12
Duration:   
2 hours
Session Times:
9:30am – 11:30am and
12:00pm – 2:00pm
(These times are  flexible for groups travelling a distance.)
Days:
Monday to Friday
No. of Students:  
Maximum one bus per session
Maximum of 30 students per session
Requirements: 
You bring the bus, we provide the Environmental Officers to lead the group activities.
A microphone on the bus is helpful.
Lunch:  
Students can bring their lunch and relax by the lake at the Visitors Centre. Lunch packs for students can be ordered from the Visitors Centre. Please download the Student Group Catering Order Form.  Covered areas available.
